FUTURISM
With many new inventions, life in the early 20th century was very exciting. In Italy, some young artists wanted to break with the past and look to the future instead. They called their movement Futurism, and created art that included machines, speed and movement. They wanted libraries and museums to close because these focus on the past, and instead thought that war would clear the way for the future. Artists including Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà , Luigi Russolo, Giacomo Balla and Gino Severini created art that expressed change and motion, depicting things like speeding cars, trains, cyclists, dancers, runners and animals.
